Joining Tasmania’s autumn bull sales circuit this year, upcoming Tasmanian stud, Martindale Angus garnered attention at its inaugural bull sale for all the right reasons, achieving a respectable sale average of $6,667 and top price of $10,000.
The full clearance of the six 18-month bulls offered at the Powranna Selling Complex on 22 March saw sale topping bull, Lot 3, Martindale MyMate R7 hit $10,000 as the studs’ style of genetics hit the right note with local and interstate beef producers.
Troy Martin, principal said it was a ‘terrific result” for the studs very first auction after selling bulls privately for many years.
“We received numerous positive comments on sale day regarding the quality and preparedness of the sale bulls and are very pleased they sold as strongly as they did”.
The top priced bull, Lot 3, a Cluden Newry Andy H113 son was snapped up by a well-known local family from Bothwell who run a large commercial operation.
Presenting with a well-balanced set of EBV’s, Lot 3, Martindale MyMate R7’s genetics boasts leading Angus females with Te Mania Lowan, Te Mania Berkely and Ardrossan Equator A241 infused bloodlines on his dam’s side along with Wattletop Andy C109 in his sires lineage.
Successful bidders of Lot 4, Martindale Moneymaker R12 said, “we’ve purchased the best bull of the day” with the winning bid of $5,000.
Lot 4, Martindale Moneymaker R12 presented with EBV’s of +151 mature cow weight, +71 200-day weight, +117 400-day weight, +154 600-day weight, carcase weight +103 and intramuscular fat of +2.0.
Heading to his new home in Surveyors Bay, the 2nd top priced bull, Lot 5, Martindale Matrix R8 followed closely behind the top priced bull selling for $8,000 to the Benders Pty Ltd group.
Mr Martin said he was buoyed by the strong interest in both the stud and sale.
“We have received great feedback around the style of animal we are breeding with lots of expressions of interest in the 2023 sale and enquiries on the quality of bulls we are going to offer next year.”
“The 2023 autumn sale will feature progeny from Millah Murrah Paratrooper P15 and we have had enormous interest in this sire’s sons so far.”
A family run property in Lilydale, Mr Martin said the Martindale Angus clan were thrilled people are interested in their bulls and genetics, and with current buoyant state of the Tasmanian beef market the stud predicted a bright future ahead for the industry.
“We sincerely thank all successful purchasers & underbidders, friends & supporters for their patronage. It was a fabulous day had by all with tremendous learnings”.
