About Us

A BRIEF HISTORY

The Martin Family originated from the Outback Queensland townships of Longreach & Blackall in the mid 40’s to early 50’s, before settling down in the small township of Ilfracombe in the early 70’s.

Ilfracombe, founded in 1891 on the Matilda Way 28km East of Longreach, was named after a small town in Devonshire England.

Working for the local Shire Council, the family business was primarily involved in the construction & maintenance of Southern Cross windmills, irrigation systems, & along with farm caretaker roles managed cattle on the Ilfracombe common.

Moving to the small rural township of Blackwater in 1980’s, located in the Central Highlands Region, 196km west of Rockhampton (beef capital of Australia), and an area of significant coal mining production.

Cattle production was undertaken on the fringes of the small township of Dingo, 50km east of Blackwater, which is nestled in grazing country at the foothills of Blackdown Tablelands National Park.

OUR STORY

Martindale Angus was founded in 2005

After extensive research in genetics, a genuine interest was established in the artificial insemination (AI) process & it was realised what could be accomplished at Martindale Angus.

The launch of our AI programmes in 2010 paved the way to the range of elite genetics that are now embedded in the herd.

Following the success of the AI programmes our next venture was into the world of embryo transfer (ET). This has been an enormously successful programme here at Martindale Angus with elite donor cows providing Grade 1 embryos annually & one elite female providing 19 embryos in one programme alone.

Martindale Angus normally turns off feeder steers/heifers, HBR bulls & in the near future embryos & semen.
